日本語特有の「間の表現」を英訳する（上級社交編）

日本語の手紙をみていたり、メールを書くときに日本語特有の言い回しがあります。
ここでは見聞きしたものでこんなものがあったなということを備忘録代わりに記載します。


I hope you will understand.
どうかそのあたりおくみとりください。
ご賢察いただければ幸甚です。

We very much wish we could,but unfortunately that's not the case.
まことに不本意ではありますが、残念ながらそのような状況ではないのです。Ｆｏｒ

I understand the difficulty, but I'd still have to ask you this big favor.
難しいことは重々承知しておりますが、そこを何とかお願いしたいのですが。

I very much appreciate the offer, but I'm afraid I would have to pass on it this time.
せっかくのお申し出ではございますが、残念ながら今回は見送らせていただきます。

For us, this is truly a most wonderful opportunity.
こちらといたしましては、願ってもないお話です。
＊mostの他にreally, absolutely等も使える。

If we could be of any assistance, we'd be more than happy to.
私どものようなものでよろしければ（喜んでそのようにいたします）。

We apologize for putting you to all this trouble.
ご面倒をおかけしてしまい大変申し訳ございませんでした。

I'm sorry I could not be of as much help as I had hoped to.
何のお役にもたてず、申し訳ありませんでした。

気がつきませんでして大変申し訳ございません。
We appologize for any inconvenience we have caused you.

行き違いがありましたようで大変申し訳ございませんでした。
We appologize for the misunderstanding.
or We apologize for our misunderstanding.（自分が悪いことが明確な場合）

二度とこのようなことがないように、しかと肝に銘じます。
We assure you that this will not happen again.
cf We promise you that this will not happen again.（少し口語的）
つかぬことをお伺いしますが。
Incidentally may I ask you something?

大変申し上げにくいのですが。
I'm sorry, but...

おっしゃることはよくわかります。
I understand what you mean, but....

お言葉を返すようで大変恐縮ですが。
With all due respect,....

お話の腰を折るようで申し訳ないのですが。
I'm sorry to interrupt, but....
cf I's sorry to butt in, but...（くだけた言い方）
I'm sorry to disturb you, but...（相手が忙しい時に）

Now, may I go back to the subject of ... ？
ここで話題を元に戻してもよいでしょうか（話が前後して恐縮ですが）。

急がすようで大変申し訳ないのですが（しつこく急がすつもりはないのですが）
I don't mean to press you, but...

ご事情がおありとは存じますが、実は急な入用ができまして。
I wish I could wait until a little later,but I'm afraid I'm having a bit of an emergency myself.
